‘A Lovely Sunday for a Creve Coeur’ is one of the late plays by Tennessee Williams, in which each character reflects deep aspects of human fate and choice. At the center of the plot is Dorothea, a not-so-young woman on the verge of important life decisions. She is surrounded by three other women, each representing a unique path or choice in life.
The plot unfolds in real-time in a single room, where Dorothea awaits a call from her suitor, while her neighbor Bodi tries to set her up with her brother. Soon, Elina and Miss Gluck appear, each with their own stories and experiences, adding complexity to Dorothea’s choice.
The play explores the deep psychological layers of each character. Their interactions are not just domestic scenes, but rather attempts of different worlds to find common points of contact.
