The Crime of Danny Segal
Story & Casting Breakdown

STORY: Danny Segal is on trial for ruining his life. The prosecuting attorney? His mother. The jury? Three perfectly biased Jewish mothers — eager to convict. As Danny tells his story, we see it unfold in the Segal home and Danny’s apartment with a chorus of perfectly biased jurors chiming in on the action.

DANNY SEGAL
Mid-to-late 20s. A young man walking a tightrope between taking care of himself and trying to keep peace in the family.

JACKIE SEGAL
DANNY’S mother, 50s/60s. A woman desperately trying to hold onto her son as she fights the separation that comes with growing up.

NORMAN SEGAL:
DANNY’S father and JACKIE’S husband. 50s/60s. Worn out by family dramatics and squabbling. Retired from running/owning a toy store.

SOFIA GIANNELLI:
DANNY’S fiancé, mid-to-late 20’s. Strong-willed, law student, and Danny’s defense attorney trying to navigate a crazy family dynamic.

JUROR #1:
Strong, pushy, opinionated. Possess her own “facts” about the case, without regard to the evidence.

JUROR #2:
A bit more moderate than JUROR #1 but not by much. Impatient with the court’s rules and imposition on her schedule.

JUROR #3:
The only juror who really listens to the facts of the case and thoughtfully weighs the evidence.

JUDGE:
Male. 50s/60s. Worn out and impatient after too many years in the legal system and its extensive case backlog.

Note: Strong comic timing critical for all characters
