The Macbeths, created by Mary McDonald-Lewis and Doren Elias, is building its production team and invites submissions for consideration.
THE PLAY:
The Macbeths is a reconsideration of Shakespeare’s famous Scottish play that pierces conceptions of Macbeth and Lady M. with dagger-point precision. Without changing a single word, the playwrights have used judicious editing, re-composition and curation to focus the play on the doomed love story in a swift, powerful and modern way. The Macbeths is an 1:20 one act play. A three-hander, The Macbeths examines the old trope — he’s a weakling pushed to murderousness by his monstrous wife — and asks three things: What happens when love and passion devolve into base appetite; what happens when a stable state is upturned by it; and what roles do fate and free will play in the outcome?
